Dr. Andrea L. Dixon

Executive Director, Center for Professional Selling and Keller Center for Research, Baylor University
Holding an endowed professorship, Dr. Andrea Dixon provides academic leadership for two centers at Baylor University: the Center for Professional Selling and the Keller Center for Research. Since assuming leadership of the Center for Professional Selling in 2009, Dr. Dixon has raised the profile of Baylor’s center by commemorating its 25th Anniversary (as the oldest sales center in the United States) and editing the 30th Anniversary issue of the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. She has built Baylor’s Center for Professional Selling into one of the top programs in the country. Under her leadership, the Keller Center Research Report has featured research by scholars from leading business schools inside and outside of the US.
Dixon’s research interests embrace behavioral issues related to sales, service and customer satisfaction. She has published in the Journal of Marketing, Harvard Business Review, Organizational Science, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Leadership Quarterly, the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Education, and several other journals. Dixon’s research in the Journal of Marketing was selected as the 2002 award-winner. Along with I.U. colleagues, she authored a text on recruiting and selection. As a member of The Sales Educators, she co-authored Strategic Sales Leadership. Her work on customer selection appears in The Oxford Handbook of Sales Management and Sales Strategy, published by the Oxford University Press.
Dr. Dixon serves on the Editorial Review Boards for the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, the Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Education. She is also an Ad Hoc Reviewer for the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.
From 1989-2009, she was on the faculty at the University of Cincinnati and was the Executive Director, MS-Marketing program. Through this leadership role, she developed and institutionalized an integrated Capstone experience, where students completed Capstone projects for Procter & Gamble, Hill-Rom Inc., dunnhumbyUSA, Sun Chemical, and other organizations. Prior to 1989, Dixon served as Senior Director of Product Development and Marketing at GAMA International.
Having completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University-Bloomington, Dixon has received numerous teaching awards: MBA Teaching Award (U.C.), Irwin Publishing’s national teaching award, Distinguished Professorship (I.U. MBA students), University-wide award (I.U.) and the Ronald J. Dornoff Teaching Fellow (U.C.). Dixon was named the international Academy of Marketing Science’s Marketing Teacher Award winner in 2008. During 2014, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Marketing Association Sales SIG as well as the Hankamer School of Business Teaching Excellence award.
In addition to teaching PhD, master- and undergraduate-level students, she shares her research and offers keynote addresses at numerous companies. As a member of Duke University’s Global Learning Resource Network for Executive Education, Dr. Dixon has addressed executives in London, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Mexico City, Dubai, Hyderabad, Paris and throughout the United States.
As a member of the academy, Dr. Dixon co-chaired the 2007 Winter AMA Educators Conference, the 2012 Global Sales Science Institute (GSSI) conference and the 3M Frontline Sales Conference in 2012 and 2016. She will be co-chairing the Global Sales Science Institute Conference in 2017. She served on the AMA Academic Council and on the board of the GSSI. She previously served as President of the AMA Sales SIG and in other SIG leadership roles as well as on the board of the National Conference on Sales Management (NCSM). She has served on several non-profit boards at the global, national and regional levels.
